(2 reviews) Millions of vulva owners suffer from sexual and pelvic pain, yet it is frequently misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all. In Healing Painful Sex, Deborah Coady, MD and Nancy Fish use their combined professional expertise as a doctor and therapist who specialize in sexual pain to provide readers with an understanding of its many causes and how to treat them, from both a physical and psychological standpoint. Healing Painful Sex includes medical checklists, illustrations, vignettes based on interviews with patients and their healthcare professionals, treatment options, and guidance for moving forward after healing. Coady and Fish speak honestly and directly to sexual pain sufferers' experiences, helping them address the problem of chronic pain, understand and prevent misdiagnoses, define medical terms and conditions, and regain sexual joy. Comprehensive, multi-dimensional, and deeply insightful, this book offers the tools to successfully take on the many challenges of sexual pain and move toward a healthy, happy future.

The authors include many people’s stories including their own personal and professional experiences. I read this book with appreciation for the commitment it took to communicate their years of learning so beautifully!
It provides a helpful guide that you can use to categorize your own symptoms and perhaps even refer to in conversation with YOUR medical professional.
The authors also share their thoughts in detail about the weaknesses they’ve seen in the medical community! I wrote all about this topic in particular at katrinwithlove.com/painful-sex-and-the-medical-community

Cw physical illness, sexual assault mention - as someone with endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain and past sexual trauma I have often felt alone in my pain despite my very supportive friends and partner. this book has been an amazing resource for me in terms of reassurance about my pain and pointing me in the right direction for treatment and helpful therapies. outlining everything from personal testimonies to the heartbreak of misdiagnosis to what it’s like to get your groove back (even for a little while), it’s been invaluable to me on my chronic pain journey! so glad to have had it along for the ride. 10/10
