The Arcwave Ion

An Air Pressure Stimulator/Stroker for Penises!

Formal wear for penises. Devices that turn testicles into dildos. Scrubs that make your ass taste like cherry cobbler. As someone who’s written about sex for nearly a decade, I’ve grown relatively desensitized to what’s considered an innovation in the sex toy space. But when I received a message to review the Arcwave Ion, a sex toy that not only bills itself a “revolutionary stroker device,” but also one that provides “the closest thing to a female orgasm for men,” I was definitely intrigued.

Their questionable use of gendered language aside, I was excited to try something that was truly revolutionary since penis toys, at least in my opinion, have become somewhat stale and predictable in terms of innovation.

Given that the pandemic has prevented me from penetrating another human orifice for the better half of a year (oh, how I miss the warmth and intimacy!), my penis has been craving novelty, and I was beyond excited to experience what the Arcwave’s patented “Pleasure Air” technology was all about.

Given that the pandemic has prevented me from penetrating another human orifice for the better half of a year (oh, how I miss the warmth and intimacy!), my penis has been craving novelty, and I was beyond excited to experience what the Arcwave’s patented “Pleasure Air” technology was all about.

Developed by Womanizer, a sexual wellness brand under WOW Tech Group, Pleasure Air is a technology that “pulsates and massages changes in air pressure,” meaning it can stimulate genitalia without making direct contact. Because the clitoris has 4,000 nerve-endings and can be sensitive to touch, Womanizer’s line of clitoral vibrators was massively successful as they stimulated this uber-sensitive pleasure spot in a way most with vulvas had never experienced before.

Arcwave, a newly founded brand under WOW Tech Group, has re-engineered this same technology for penises by targeting the “Pacinian receptors,” which detect pressure changes and vibrations in the frenulum. These are the same receptors found in the clitoris and are similarly responsive to stimulation, hence its claim to being the “closest thing to a female orgasm.”

The frenulum, in case you’re unfamiliar, is the small strip of skin that runs just below the head on the underside of your penis. It is one of the most sensitive places on the organ and an area I only recently started to explore prior to receiving the Arcwave. I urge you not to neglect the area as I did, you could be missing out on some of the best orgasms of your life.

The Review.

The first thing I noticed was how sleek and compact the Arcwave is, despite the technology involved. The device itself comes in two parts: a detachable textured silicone sleeve and the device responsible for the technology. The Arcwave comes with a charging base containing silica packets that absorb the remaining water after cleaning the toy and doubles as a discreet carrying case.

To activate the toy, I pressed down on the “+” button for a few seconds as instructed and nothing really happened, so I charged the toy for a few extra hours. This, I came to find, was completely unnecessary because the toy is automatically set to “smart silent” mode, meaning it won’t start functioning until your penis makes contact with its sensor, which is located roughly halfway through the device.

The Arcwaves’s direct contact with my frenulum felt fantastic, providing a very slight and gradual build that culminated in one of the most powerful orgasms I’ve ever had.

Initially, I thought you were supposed to insert your penis and let the toy do all the work. And to be honest, I was perfectly happy with that. The Arcwaves’s direct contact with my frenulum felt fantastic, providing a very slight and gradual build that culminated in one of the most powerful orgasms I’ve ever had.

As I used to toy more often, I realized that you can combine manual stroking with stimulation (though, as I learned, you will definitely need to turn the “smart silent” mode off because the toy will turn off if your penis is not directly on the sensor). While I did enjoy stroking with the toy every now and then, I really liked edging myself and keeping my frenulum on the sensor as I played around with the settings.

You can increase or decrease the intensity of stimulation using the “+” or “-” buttons on the underside of the toy. I did think it was strange that these buttons were located on the underside since I didn’t know what I was clicking with my lube-slicked fingers half of the time.

Something that should definitely be mentioned is the noise the toy emits. I won’t lie, it is loud. It sounds like an idle boat motor. I know that sounds dramatic (and I can be quite the drama queen at times), but the noise was so loud that I couldn’t hear the porn I was watching, even at full volume.

So if you require any discretion when masturbating, maybe the Arcwave isn’t for you. However, I did find that using headphones and gripping the device tighter helped. Gripping the toy helps quiet the noise and intensifies stimulation. Because the toy is open-ended, you get to watch yourself climax as well, which is hot (if you’re into that) and makes cleanup much simpler.

To clean the Arwave, you just twist the toy to detach the sleeve from the device, soaking each in water and cleaning with antibacterial soap or toy cleaner.

I’d describe the sensation as if you’re placing your cock inside a speaker and letting the sound waves of a fast-paced EDM song bounce on your frenulum and surrounding areas.

The Verdict.

I like the Arcawave. I like it a lot. The sensation it provides is definitely unique to most strokers. The toy rumbles––I would say “rumble” is the most accurate descriptor here––against your shaft, with emphasis on the frenulum. I’d describe the sensation as if you’re placing your cock inside a speaker and letting the sound waves of a fast-paced EDM song bounce on your frenulum and surrounding areas.

However, there are still a few features that could be improved on, like the noise. While I appreciate the effort to rectify this issue with their smart silent mode, all it really does is turn the toy off when your penis is not directly on the sensor, which makes it less convenient to use. But that’s truly my only complaint. The toy is great.

Ultimately, the Arcwave Ion delivered on the novelty my penis was craving and, unlike many sex toys I’ve reviewed, I plan to keep this one in my regular rotation. If you have the funds to purchase the Arcwave (admittedly, it is pricier than most other stokers) and enjoy having your frenulum tickled, I would definitely recommend adding it to your collection since there is no other toy on the market that provides this kind of unique and targeted stimulation.
