An essential exploration of why and how sexuality works based on groundbreaking research and brain science that will radically transform your sex life into one filled with confidence and joy. The first lesson in this essential, transformative book by Dr. Emily Nagoski is that every vulva has it's own unique sexuality, like a fingerprint, and that it varies more than the penis in it's anatomy, sexual response mechanisms, and the way it respond to the sexual world. This book also discusses how sex happens within varying contexts, and all the complications of everyday life influence the context surrounding a vulva’s arousal, desire, and orgasm. Cutting-edge research across multiple disciplines tells us that the most important factor for vulva-owners in creating and sustaining a fulfilling sex life, is not what you do in bed or how you do it, but how you feel about it. This means that stress, mood, trust, and body image are not peripheral factors in sexual wellbeing; they are central to it. Once you understand these factors, and how to influence them, you can create for yourself better sex and more profound pleasure than you ever thought possible. And Emily Nagoski can prove it.

This book taught me so much and made me realize that not only am I completely unique but that we’re all the same. We all have the same parts but are just organized differently! Truly a brilliant book if you’re a woman or want to know more about female sexuality.

  2. 5 out of 5 Essential getting-to-know-you guide!

For “early readers,” I found this so beneficial and empowering. To sum up this gem on my shelf – An amalgamation of stories from women from all different walks of life, sharing their journeys of destigmatizing their own sexuality juxtaposed with these amazing, tangible studies. It makes you laugh and cry and crave to call out “ME TOO!” throughout. I’ve given it to all of my friends.

  4. 5 out of 5 Changes the way you THINK about sex

Emily Nagoski is a brilliant mind who argues that each woman’s sexual triggers and brakes are as unique to them as their thumb print. The book is filled with scientific research that is well explained in layman’s terms, her own anecdotes from working as a therapist, as well as fun and healing exercises throughout each chapter. I absolutely love this book and I have shared it with several of my friends!!

  5. 5 out of 5 A great introduction to sex positivity

    jessicahale96

This book was such a delightful read. I love that it pulls from personal experience, as some of the issues discussed in the book seem to cause a disconnect between ourselves and the solutions to things we wish to improve. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, regardless of how they identify, as not only did I learn ways to improve my sex life, but I also found tips on embracing my own body.

So grateful for this book! While I think the author could have worked harder to include trans perspectives, it is such a helpful book for people with vulvas! If you struggle with your libido, and general self acceptance around intimacy, this book will help you feel normal and comfortable

  7. 4 out of 5 So helpful

    Courtney

I loved this book so much, so much great information! Leaves spots to write in too for working through things! I love the flow of the book but sometimes she seems to talk down a little bit feels more like her trying to explain something to people who may not know much about sex or bodies at all but past that I loved this book! I loved her explanation for the two petal sex drive functioning together
